Herbal medicine in more detail

Traditional herbal medicine goes back many thousands of years. If you choose to come to me, then you will be meeting with a person who is practising a form of medicine that has had countless millennia to work out how to be both safe and effective.

At the heart of the practice of herbal medicine is the understanding that we humans, like all living things, we have an extraordinary, in-built, natural intelligence that knows how to self-repair from injury or illness. In all the ancient traditions of herbal medicine the primary goal is to see and seek to remove whatever may be obstructing that natural intelligence. Herbs, foods and other viable strategies help it bring the mind, body and soul back into balance .

Herbs are the 'people's medicine’, they can never be patented or taken away from us. Most people do not need to become dependent on pharmaceutical drugs in order to care for themselves or their loved ones. Herbs used in modern herbal medicine have had their safety well established and adverse reactions are extremely rare. That said, it needs to be understood that herbs contain complex chemicals that the body does not normally produce by itself, nor obtain from foods. Herbs are natural drugs, and the importance of giving the right dosage and understanding unique chemistry in herbal medicines cannot be overstated.
